ChatGPT currency converter and exchange rates
FxFeed's ChatGPT plugin connects currency questions to exchange-rate data. It is designed to look up the latest available rates, retrieve rates for a historical date, and convert an amount between currencies. Every answer should include the date of the rate used.
Availability: the FxFeed plugin is being prepared for publication. It is not yet available to install from the public ChatGPT plugin directory. Connection testing and OpenAI review must finish before public launch. This page will link to the listing when it is published.
What you can ask FxFeed
The plugin exposes three focused tools. These example prompts describe its intended workflow:
| Task | Example prompt |
|---|---|
| Convert an amount | Convert 100 USD to EUR using the latest available rate. Show the rate and its date. |
| Compare quote currencies | Show the latest EUR exchange rates for USD, GBP, and DKK. |
| Look up a past date | What was the USD to EUR exchange rate on 24 September 2026? |
| Convert a past expense | Convert a 250 GBP expense to EUR using the rate for 24 September 2026. |
Use three-letter currency codes when possible. Specify the currency you are converting from, the currency you want, and the amount. If you need a historical conversion, include the date. A request for a rate does not need an amount.
How the connection will work
Once the plugin is available, install FxFeed from the ChatGPT plugin directory and connect your FxFeed account through the sign-in and consent screen. You will be able to select FxFeed in a conversation and ask one of the questions above.
The connection uses your FxFeed account's access and request allowance. An account is required; you can review current allowances on the pricing page. Keep API keys and passwords out of chat messages.
For developers evaluating the underlying integration today, FxFeed already offers a remote MCP server at https://fxfeed.io/mcp. Its existing API-key connection works with compatible MCP clients. See the AI assistant setup instructions for supported configuration examples. Public ChatGPT connection availability is separate from those existing MCP integrations.
Understand the rate before using it
FxFeed provides mid-market reference rates for more than 160 currencies. Historical coverage extends back to 1999, but the first available date varies by currency. Check supported currencies, historical coverage, and the data methodology for the relevant pair.
The latest available rate is not necessarily a price observed at this instant. Update frequency depends on the data source and your account access. Weekends and holidays can use an earlier working day's rate. Ask ChatGPT to show the returned date and identify any difference from the date you requested.
A currency conversion is a reference calculation. It does not include your bank's spread, card fees, transfer fees, or settlement conditions. FxFeed cannot send money, execute a trade, or predict future exchange rates.
Use exchange rates while the plugin is being prepared
The historical currency converter is available on the website. For software integrations, use the API documentation, OpenAPI specification, or Google Sheets integration.
